Welcome the New Decade with a Glühwein Recipe

gluhwein

In just a few days we will say goodbye to 2019 and welcome 2020. A new decade is arriving—and with that, a new resolve to be our best selves.

When I look back at everything that has happened to me personally in the past decade, it feels like so much. Almost too much. But all of those years . . . well, they brought me here today to do what I love the most: helping people make an amazing transition into a healthy lifestyle.

Over and over again, I see people struggle to wake up in the morning, dragging themselves throughout the day due to lack of energy. I know many continue to suffer from chronic migraines, pain, chronic conditions, and more. I’m here to help people make a change in the way they think, shop, eat food, and conduct bad habits into an active, healthy life. Together we can get rid of our unwanted symptoms once and for all.

So, resolve to embrace the hardship and bad habits as stones on a path that led you here. Resolve to invite in a new lifestyle.

To support you—and your healing journey—as we embark on a new decade, I invite you to book a FREE 20-minute call and see how I can help you make a transition that will last for “good,” for decades to come!

To make the end of this decade a special one, I’d like to share a Glühwein recipe that I use when hosting a house party. Glühwein originates in Germany and is a popular mulled wine that is perfect for when it’s cold outside. For this easy-to-make at-home version, use a nice bottle of red wine with lots of aromatic spices that will give the drink a pleasant taste—and it will enhance its anti-inflammatory quality. Serve the Glühwein right when your guests first arrive—it will warm them up from the inside out, and will guarantee a fun atmosphere! gluhwein

Glühwein (serves 4-6)

Ingredients:

  • 1 bottle of high-quality dry red wine of your choice
  • 1 apple, cored and cut into large chunks
  • ½ orange, sliced
  • 1 teaspoon black peppercorns or rainbow peppercorns
  • 3-4 cardamom pods, slightly crushed
  • 4-5 whole cloves
  • 1-2 cinnamon sticks
  • Maple syrup, to sweet
  • Optional: 2 drops of orange essential oil

Directions:

  1. Pour a bottle (750 ml) of dry red wine into a medium saucepan.
  2. Add the rest of the ingredients. Taste and correct the sweetness if needed.
  3. Bring the mixture just barely to a simmer over low heat, stirring to dissolve the maple syrup. You only want the bubbles start forming along the edges of the pan. (Too much bubbling means too much heat, and heat cooks off alcohol, which is far from the desire point.)
  4. Adjust the heat to keep the very gentle simmer going and for about 10 minutes.
  5. Strain the mixture into mugs and serve hot.
